No-Limit Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor in the world by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative comments from other people destroy his dream of being one of the strongest poker players on the planet.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed many of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing passion for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying cash games on a normal basis.
