Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker contender in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His papa showed him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about the game. He would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the adverse feedback from other people destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.

He began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. He knows he makes errors in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a normal basis.
