Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not let the adverse feedback from other people kill his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He began playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. He says that he is picking up skills every single day and is very abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
