Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to achieve closing poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest gamblers in the world. While gambling on web poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. He regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I know Gus is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.

Playing for the min takes a majority of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the best players in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amount. I believe television can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The greatest players in the world might just be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be seen playing net poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in high stakes omaha high and hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in money rounds?
