Net Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

by Raegan on April 21st, 2020

Gus Hansen experienced a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the last poker table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best bettors in the world. While betting on online poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus often competes in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I believe Gus is an amazing poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is broke, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the min takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Gus is accepted to be 1 of the greatest players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I believe tv can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The best players anywhere in the world could be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be seen competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in high stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in money games?
