Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor in the world by most of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to learn every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative feedback from others destroy his dream of being one of the best poker players in the world.

Phil started playing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders every single session of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
