Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to discover whatever he possibly could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his dream of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first number of years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he defeated quite a few of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to hard work and an undying passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
