Poker has become globally acclaimed recently, with televised tournaments and celebrity poker game shows. Its universal appeal, though, arcs back quite a bit farther than its television scores. Over the years many variants on the first poker game have been developed, including a handful of games that are not in fact poker anymore. Caribbean stud poker is 1 of these games. Despite the name, Caribbean stud poker is more closely affiliated with 21 than traditional poker, in that the gamblers bet against the casino rather than each other. The winning hands, are the traditional poker hands. There is little conniving or other kinds of concealment. In Caribbean stud poker, you are required to ante up prior to the dealer declares "No more bets." At that point, both you and the dealer and of course all of the different gamblers are given 5 cards. After you have seen your hand and the bank’s 1st card, you have to in turn make a call wager or surrender. The call bet’s value is akin to your beginning ante, meaning that the risks will have doubled. Surrendering means that your wager goes instantaneously to the dealer. After the wager comes the face off. If the casino does not have ace/king or better, your wager is given back, plus a sum on par with the original bet. If the bank does have ace/king or greater, you succeed if your hand beats the dealer’s hand. The bank pays out money equal to your wager and controlled odds on your call wager. These expectations are:
- Equal for a pair or high card
- two to one for 2 pairs
- three to one for 3 of a kind
- 4-1 for a straight
- 5-1 for a flush
- seven to one for a full house
- twenty to one for a 4 of a kind
- fifty to one for a straight flush
- one hundred to one for a royal flush
