Poker is a dominant game that has a following of millions and millions of aggressive enthusiasts all over the globe. The game involves players looking at their own cards prior to attempting to determine what cards the other players have in their hands. The various versions of poker games are Texas Hold’em, Seven Card Stud, Omaha Poker, the Hi/Lo variation, Five Card Stud, and Five Card Draw. There are poker forums that provide material about the assorted terms used in the game. These words are awfully confusing and usually require a while to become versed in. However, knowing these phrases is extremely important, as players rely them constantly while playing in a poker game, it doesn’t matter if they are beginners or masters.
The phrase ‘aces up’ applies to a pair of aces and one more pair. ‘Active player’ often means a player who is still very much involved in a hand. ‘All blue and all Pink’ refers to a player has a set of five cards that are all spades, diamonds, hearts, or clubs. ‘Blank card’ references a card that has little value in the hand. The phrase, ‘deal’ refers to the action of giving out cards to gamblers or maintaining the cards on the boards. It pertains to the entire activity from shuffling to giving out the cards and up to when the money has been won, thus ending that deal.
Other familiar words employed in the game of poker include but not limited to discard, drawing dead, flop, Fourth Street, kicker, lock up, loose game, and muck. It’s essential to reference a comprehensive catalogue of poker phrases while learning to play the game. There are poker sites that are specifically devoted to providing information about generally employed poker words. They provide a separate area where the meaning of these phrases are provided along with a commentary of the appropriate time to employ these phrases.
